De Kift is an infamous Dutch band that’s been going strong for over twenty years. The website not only shows their body of work, but also their recent creations, all within a live atmosphere.
What we did:
When we started working with them, de Kift told us that the best thing about being in a band is going on tour. So that’s what we decided to base their website on. We hopped on their tour bus and shot all the imagery for the website wherever they went on their tour to France: concert halls, waiting areas, tents and even living rooms.
De Kift always try and make their special edition albums extra special by personalising them, so we recreated that feel by making panorama pictures made up of collages of images of the different spaces. Subtle animations were added to bring the images alive. While the user can always scroll down past the content to view the collage by itself at the bottom of the page.
All the content is built around the principle of long pages with columns. Whether you scroll down along the news or delve deep into the old productions, it all works the same. The site adapts responsively to the size of your screen, so the iPhone has one column, your desktop has five. The mobile version has a menu that folds in on itself so it’s never in the way while navigating. Of course the band wants to show of their body of work as much as they can, so video and music can be played on every device straight from the browser, even on mobiles.

It was with pain in our hearts that we said goodbye to the previous website we did for de Kift. What we have left is a explanation of how that site worked by the band itself.
